Antique French Cane Gun Pinfire St. Etienne Marked

  • Price: $3,495.00
  • Maker: French
  • Model: Cane Gun
  • Caliber: 12mm

  • Description: NSN, 12mm Pinfire Shotshell, 28 1/2” barrel with a good, lightly freckled bore. This cane measures 35 1/2” overall, with a darkly stained bamboo covering along the shaft/barrel, and a dark gray iron handle with bag-shaped walnut grip. The rear of the handle dog-leg has a sliding retention bolt that, when raised, allow the breech-block to slide backwards, thus exposing the chamber. Upon insertion of a cartridge, the bolt would then be carefully slid forward over the base of the shell. The tip insert/muzzle cover would then be removed and the exposed cocking hook used to pull and lock the bar hammer in the cocked position. Additionally, the folding trigger drops down simultaneously when the action is cocked. Originally, these guns were supplied with a wire buttstock that attached via the tapped hole in the center of the grip backstrap. Other examples of these rather well-made, but complicated guns are known with a “J. RUCHON” maker or retailer mark, however this example has just a crisp St. Etienne name and proofmark. This is a terrific example of an upper class “poaching gun”, and is in fine condition overall. Antique
