- Description: This is a Wilkinson-made sword that measures 42 1/4” overall, with a 35” straight, thrusting blade having long, single fullers. The blade has an overall dull, pewter gray patina with thin freckling along the entire length. The ricasso is dated “10 ’15” on the reverse, “WILKINSON” with Broad Arrow and unit stamps on the obverse: “RCHA / B8” (Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, Battery 8). The cup-type guard has an overall matching gray patina with spots of mild surface oxidation throughout, as well as a struck out issue stamp on the interior: “RCHA / 8 / 7. 19”. The ruddy-brown composite grip has some surface crazing, and wear to the knurling and checkering. The domed pommel has a darker brown patina with matching appearance on the exposed capstan nut. The steel scabbard has an identical mottled gray-brown patina with no dents or major blemishes. Further struck out issue markings are present at the throat: “PLDG / 197” (Princess Louise Dragoon Guards); and “RMC RE” (Royal Military College). This is a fine example of a seldom seen, Canadian marked Pattern 1908 Cavalry Sword overall.
