  • Description: This is a chromolithographic newspaper supplement measuring 17" across x 21" high depicting a portrait of Field Marshal Lord Roberts of Kandahar, at the time commander-in-chief in South Africa during the Second Boer War (1899 - 1900). The print shows Lord Roberts in dress uniform with a caption that reads, "FIELD MARSHAL LORD ROBERTS OF KANDAHAR K.P.-G.C.B-G.C.S.I.-G.C.I.E.-V.C." and also states that the print was made at the behest of the St. John Daily and Semi-Weekly Sun. The paper is lightly age-toned and has a series of creases along the right edge and a single vertical tear at the center of the bottom edge. Also included is a small printed commemorative cloth portrait of the Field Marshal swathed in the Union Jack. The print is housed in an old wooden frame in very good shape and is a nice piece for display.
