  • Price: $6,895.00
  • Maker: Spfld
  • Model: Garand
  • Caliber: .30-06

  • Description: Serial #6098174, .30-06, 24” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a 1956-assembled rifle with a correct “SA 8-56” dated, “NM (star)” stamped barrel, and no other “NM” marked parts (this is correct for Type 1 rifles). The parts are correct, SA marked examples, and the metal retains 95-97% of the original dark parkerized finish with some hints of silvering on the muzzle, along some projecting edges, and within the op-rod raceway and other bearing surfaces. There are some areas of dark pitting on the right side of the receiver, covered by the wood when the rifle is fully assembled. The DoD Eagle-stamped, walnut stock and handguards are in fine shape with some small handling marks marring the otherwise excellent original finish, and the DoD cartouche is clear and crisp on the left side ahead of the wrist. These early National Match rifles were not glass-bedded, instead they had wooden spacers added to the magazine wells to ensure a tight fit, and this stock still has them installed. Additionally, the last four digits of the serial number are present in the barrel channel, and there is a further area of pitting on the right edge of the buttplate. The rifle comes with a 2015 dated letter from the CMP that lists the rifle by serial number as a Raritan Arsenal shipped National Match. The original sales record lists a date of “12/10/8”, which we assume should read 12/10/58. Authentic Type 1 National Match Garands are extremely hard-to-find since most were further modified by their owners after purchase. This example, which was purchased out of a US Army officer’s estate, is in fine-near excellent, little-used condition. FFL or C&R
