  • Description: Serial #236459, .45-70, 32 1/2” barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some minor freckling along its length. This rifle has an 1873 dated, low-arch breech, and has retained about 75-80% of the original blue on the barrel with some fading and freckling at the muzzle, as well as on the high edges and projections of the 1873 rear sight. The breechblock and receiver have traces of original color case-hardening remaining, along with a mottled patina which that over onto the lock and hammer (original color case-hardening is present on the underside of the breechblock). The ramrod and barrel bands likewise have some of their original blue finish, with the balance of the metal having turned to a freckled plum-brown. The three-click lock is tight and functions flawlessly. The walnut stock has kept its original military oil finish with a crisp, “SWP / 1883” cartouche and minor handling marks and bruises scattered throughout the wood. This is a very nice, representative example of a U.S. Trapdoor rifle, and is in fine plus overall condition. Antique
