This carbine is marked on the left frame "Smiths Patent/June 23, 1857"-address/Poultney and Trimble/Baltimore USA." and "Manufactured by /American Machine Works Mfg./Chicopee Falls." A 21 5/8" barrel with a bright bore showing some light, scattered pitting. The serial number is 9634 with barrel matching the frame. Inspector's initials on the barrel are "L.F.R." on the barrel and "IH" in an oval cartouche on the left stock grip area. Antique fine condition with overall traces of case color on frame, stronger in protected areas. Bore is bright and rates very good with some corrosion. strong finish both wood and metal. Antique
