This serial # 86B is one of only 1000 martini Metford rifles purchased by Canada in 1894. These 303 Metford rifles were issued to the Royal Regiment of Canadian infantry see a treatise of the British Military martini .40 & 303 martinis 1880-1920. Page 386. These rifles were designed to take the Canadian pattern bayonet. These were all converted from the 1889 dated BSA Rifles, 33 ". Barrek in 303. This piece retains most of its original blue that shows some spotting and staining. The wood is all original finish with normal usage and storage marks. The left side of the butt shows the M&D (Militia & Defense) stamp and issue #589-An overall very good example with its original clearing rod. The Metford bore is overall pitted from teh corrosive primmers but is still shootable . A scarce pattern for the British Military or Martini Collector.
