A steel buttplate for Sharps/British contract carbine. Measurements are heel to toe, 4 5/16" width 1 1/4", top tang 1 7/8". 2 screw holes, 1 in top tang, one below the notch for door. Marked under the top tang 006/crown/A/5. This was the inspector's mark from Enfield. There were a total of 6000 sharps carbines purchased by Britain with a relatively low survival rate. A scarce buttplate if you need one.
