Early Spontoon which may have seen service in the French and Indian War period and probably saw service in the American Revolutionary War. 12" blade, tip broken, pitted showing its age and the iron blade is nicely engraved No. 153. In addition, it is marked on the crossover with an additional but unknown marking. The wood shaft has been shortened to 51 inches and appears to be oak and original. A nice example with only the screws appearing to be later than the unit. See George Neumann's great book " Battle Weapons" of the American Revolution" at page 374-376 for similar pieces.
