Boer War Monkey Tail Carbine

SN 18882 is a Westley Richards carbine. The lock is dated 1874. The barrel is marked Whitworth pat. The bore is bright/very good showing the multi groove Whitworth rifling. This is one of the contract guns as purchased by the Orange Free State. The OUS mark is branded into the butt on both sides with a smaller band on the left side of the stock below the breech. A breech loading percussion carbine with excellent wood and metal, it has some light pitting on the barrel but an excellent example. There is a brass 15 inlaid on the right side of the butt.
