Japanese Type 18 Murata Rifle
Maker: Murata Model: Type 18 Caliber/Gauge: 11mm Murata
Serial #124074, 11mm Murata, 32 1/4" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some very mild freckling within the grooves. This rifle has an overall dark brown patina with some original blue near the muzzle and some original bright metal on the protected areas of the bolt. While the bolt is numbered 107035 and is technically mismatched, both the receiver and bolt have matching Kanji assembly numbers (429); probably applied during a later overhaul, and prominent school markings on the barrel breech ahead of the receiver. The wooden stock has numerous marks and blemishes throughout under a thick added oil finish with a large repaired chip at the toe, small chips along the edges of the ramrod channel, and a still quite crisp armory stamp on the right side of the butt. The rifle is missing the ramrod and the firing pin appears to be broken. Nevertheless, this is a fair Meiji era Japanese rifle overall. Antique
