A quite scarce Portuguese contract Snider Enfield cavalry carbine. A BSA produced contract carbine (one of only 1200 produced). The contract was signed in October of 1874 between Portugal and BSA. The British government was not involved but Portugal was considered an ally. This carbine is dated 1875 and shows the Portuguese crown over "G.P". The barrel is numbered D133 and the BSA breech block 944. The bore grades bright, excellent. The exterior condition is excellent with the wood showing some bruising but with lots of raised grain. Nice case color on the lock plate and blue on other metal pieces. A scarce contract Snider Cavalry Carbine. Reference Pg. 112 ".577 Snider - Enfield Rifles and Carbines" By Skennerton. Antique
