Australian Alexander Henry New South Wales Two-Band Rifle 577/450

  • Price: $2,795.00
  • Maker: Alexander Henry
  • Model:
  • Caliber: .577/450

  • Description: Serial #627, .577/.450 Martini-Henry, 31" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves. This is a short rifle, left-hand lock variant (dated 1877) that has retained about 40-50% of the original blue on the barrel, blending smoothly with a mellow plum-brown patina on the balance. The frame has a mottled, gray-brown patina, and the "N.A.&A. Co. Ld. / 1877", and "HENRY'S / PATENT" frame markings are still crisp and clear. The walnut forend and buttstock have scattered small handling marks and minor surface blemishes throughout the original oil finish. The large "NSW", "44" issue stamps, "(arrow) / S / (arrow)" sale stamp, and the 1878 dated Birmingham cartouche are still crisp and clear on the right side of the buttstock. A large rack number is stamped on the left side: "4"; and the upper swivel has broken at the screw on one side. The action is still tight and fully functional, and an original ramrod is included. Several variants of these rifles were used by New South Wales; this is the short, two-band version chambered in .577/.450 (rifles made prior to 1877 were chambered in .450 3 1/4" and converted to the Martini-Henry round later) and is in very good, original condition.
