Item #42870
British No. 1 Mk. III* SMLE rifle by BSA (Post-War Austrian Police)
- Maker: BSA
- Model: SMLE
- Caliber: .303
- Description: Serial #F87066, .303 British, 25" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a 1917-dated rifle that has retained 80-85% of the original blue on the receiver and matching nosecap, with gray fading along the raised edges and bearing surfaces. The matching bolt has about 50% blue remaining, with freckling and fading on the handle. The rifle has profuse British military stamps, as well as a post-WW2 Austrian Police "OSTERR / (eagle) / GENDARMERIE" stamp on the knox-form. The walnut forend, handguards, and buttstock are in good-very good shape with minor handling marks and small surface blemishes throughout, as well as a slightly different finish on the "L" marked buttstock. There is a minor chip at the heel of the brass buttplate too. The rifle comes with a single unnumbered magazine, and is a very good-near fine example of a post-war marked SMLE. FFL or C&R
