- Description: This is a handsome sword-style bayonet for the Pattern 1855 Lancaster Carbine that measures 29” overall with a 24” quill-backed blade. The steel has a fairly bright gray patina with streaks of old protective grease on both sides. Extensive WD proof marks are present on both sides of the ricasso. The hilt has darkly tarnished brass guard and pommel, checkered composite grips, and functional press stud. The leather scabbard has extensive crazing along the body with mild flaking along the edges. The brass throat and tip have an overall dark ochre patina. The buff leather frog is issue numbered on the back: “3 / ND(?) / 612”, and has stained dark gray-brown with lightening at the belt loop. The leather is dried somewhat, but is still fairly flexible. This is a fine example of a rare British bayonet.
