British Pattern 1888 Mk I 2nd Type Bayonet
- Maker: British
- Model: Bayonet
- Description: This is an excellent Lee/Metford Rifle, Pattern 1888 Bayonet & Scabbard. Dated February 1893 (2'93), with "EFD" or Royal Small Arms Factory Enfield and War Department broad arrow stamps on both bayonet & scabbard. This is an early pattern design Mk I 2nd type with brass close spaced riveted handle with a clearance hole drilled through handle above the first brass rivet. Unlike most bayonets of this vintage this one has its original excellent leather and steel scabbard with just light corrosion on exposed surfaces, that has 396 stamped on the mouthpiece and matching 396 on the bayonets pommel. The overall condition of this unsharpened bayonet is excellent with only light corrosion on the ricasso and pommel. Accompanying this set is an original British issued buff suede Wallace General Service Mark I bayonet frog in excellent condition with only light verdigris on the rivets. This frog has some inscription on back but it is not legible. OA 16.6 Blade 12 scabbard 12.6. Fine example of a nearly 130 year old British bayonet.
