  • Description: Serial #1198, 4mm RF, 29” octagon barrel with an excellent, bright bore (actual bore length is approximately 8”). This is a well-made rifle that has been polished to bright, and now has some areas of mild plum-brown freckling at the muzzle, as well as scattered about the frame and lever. The rifle has the original target front sight fitted, as well as the original rear aperture sight with wide disk (also polished bright). A very small and unobtrusive import mark is present on the underside of the barrel just ahead of the forend tip. The forend is wedge-fastened with minor handling marks and blemishes scattered throughout. The buttstock is typically complex with thumb-rest, cheek-piece, and long, hooked butt, and the wood has a commensurate amount of minor handling marks and blemishes in the slightly glossy varnish finish. Unlike most Zimmerstutsen, this example has the short bore located at the breech-end of the false “barrel” rather than at the muzzle, so the rifle can be loaded in the conventional way by opening the breech. The action is smooth, and the double-set triggers are smooth with a crisp let-off when set. This is a neat Zimmerstutzen variation, and rates very good overall. FFL or C&R
