Scarce US Model 1890 Intrenching Knife & Scabbard Excellent
- Maker: US Military
- Model: Knife
- Description: This is the US Model 1890 Intrenching Knife, a reissued version of the 1880 Hunting knife with the discernible U.S. 1892 on the guard with Springfield Armory on the obverse and no serial number or inspector marks. Ordered late in the production cycle of these utilitarian knives this model also had a more yellowish appearance of the brass guard as it contained a higher zinc content. This example is in excellent condition measuring 13 inches overall with an 8 inch blade that has a mirror-bright finish with light scuffs and scratches from insertion into the scabbard and two very small spots of carbon staining. The varnished oak handle is excellent as is the brass guard that has some light tarnish. The scabbard is near excellent with lightly scuffed and marked leather with some minor verdigris on the brass rivets and is an R.I.A. (Rock Island Arsenal) modified brass loop belt hanger with original Watervliet leather loop scabbard with remnant stitching in the center. A fantastic example of this late version of the classic Hunting Knife that will add to any collection.
