Swiss Model 1817/40 Percussion Musket with Lucerne Markings
- Maker: Swiss
- Model: Musket
- Caliber: .69
- Description: Serial #490, .69 Caliber, 40 1/4" barrel with a fair bore that has dark freckling along its length. This was originally a Model 1817 flintlock musket and was converted to percussion in order to conform with the 1840 specifications. The metal has an overall mottled gray and plum-brown patina, as well as an overall dark brown patina on the hammer and unmarked lockplate. Additionally, there are scattered spots of mild surface oxidation on the hammer. The walnut stock is in about good shape with numerous handling marks and small surface blemishes scattered about the added varnish finish, and a small number stamped into the wood just above the trigger on the left side. The musket comes with a correct, trumpet-head ramrod, and the action is tight and fully functional. This is a good-near very good example of a seldom seen Swiss musket. Antique
