Unissued Swiss Model 1842 Percussion Musket with Bayonet
- Maker: Swiss
- Model: 1842
- Caliber: .70
- Description: NSN, .70 Caliber, 42 1/2" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a well-made and sturdy smoothbore musket that retains its original armory bright finish on the barrel, bands, trigger guard, and buttplate. The "BEURET FRERES / LIEGE" marked lock, hammer, and breech iron likewise retain virtually all of the original bright color case-hardening under an old, armory-applied coat of protective grease. All markings, including the "E / LG" proof, are crisp and sharp. The stock is also in excellent, unissued condition with a few minor handling marks spread about the wood. There is a rack number on the comb, "54", which is still crisp and clear, as are all of the remaining stock markings. Two armory seals are attached to the sling swivel on the middle band, as well as a small brass collection number disk. The action is fully functional, and an original ramrod is included. Also included is an original Model 1842 socket bayonet that measures 21" overall, with an 18 1/4" angular blade having hollow-ground backflutes and a single fuller. The face of the blade is engraved "19" just above the shank, and the socket, which measures 2 5/8" in length has a L-shaped mortise with intact locking ring. The bayonet retains nearly all of the original armory bright finish under a matching coat of dried protective grease. This is a rarely seen Swiss percussion musket, complete with bayonet, and is in extremely rare, unissued condition. Antique
